I recently took the second approach with anything including the word test in the subject and my traffic from the list dropped by over 50% just like that! Amazing. 
But because you asked, Tony, Ill abstain from further public postings on the subject unless some new development in the discussion takes place, which I guess I have to admit hasnt happened anytime recently (coming from me or anyone else)
