You can just add "no switchport" on etherchannel and assign IP address. If router is not taking "no switchport" command, you probably need to upgrade IOS to 12.4.

• VLAN 1 can only be deleted by deleting the vlan.dat file. • VLAN 1 can not be deleted until all ports have been removed from it.
