OSPF Hello Time

Say you configure OSPF hello time to be 1800 seconds (30 minutes) from the default, the first time you do this unless you do it at the same time (somehow) the hellos may not be in sync, bringing the neighbors down, and you have to wait for the first dead time to expire. Is there a way to force this? I tried rebooting and clearing the process but neither works.
