but i was wondering does a device (understading only IPP) gets a DSCP marking isnt it going to ignore the last 3 bits anyway? if yes what the point of the CS?

use of CS in qos?

Hey,
IPP uses the most significant 3 bits in the ToS field in the IP header. With DSCP the CS values essentially do the same thing. In order to be backwards compatible with IPP it only uses the 3 most significant bits. Maybe this will help you visualize:
CSx Dec. IPP Binary
CS1 […]

Live Stream from Cisco Live / Networkers

I think ours were better looking. I’ll have to find a couple pics of each and post them on a voting webpage.

use of CS in qos?

Hi all.
I understand that CS is used for backward compatibility with IP precedence.
My question is : if a device only understands the IP precedence and it receives a packet with the dscp marking isnt it going to ignore the last 3 bits anyway?
Thanks, Abderrahim

Hey Charles,
No doubt the professional instructors will have some advice for you on this topic. But just a quick question for you:
What is your own estimate of how much time this costs you per lab, on average? […]

as-override vs. allowas-in

Well, with the allowas-in command, there’s a # to say how many times it can appear before considered looped. With replacing the AS it would just look like someone prepended, so unless you have a rule/aversion to prepending it wouldn’t matter.
