Q. What new functions does DFC3C support?
A. DFC3C supports all functions of DFC3B. Since a PFC3C based supervisor engine is not yet available, a DFC3C will operate like a DFC3B in your system at this point in time. I’m not sure if that answers your question entirely. Another interesting note:
Q. Can we mix these 10 Gigabit Ethernet modules and other modules with centralized forwarding card (CFC) or other DFCs in the same chassis?
A. Yes, we will support a mix of DFC and CFC in the same chassis. The chassis will operate in the mode of the lowest common denominator (Table 3).
We tried to use a 6708 with the DFC3C (instead of a DFC3CXL, note the “XL”) in a chassis with a Sup720-3BXL and it wouldn’t power on. Good thing too since if it did it would have kicked our 3BXLs down to 3Bs and we would have dropped BGP routes, which would have made me a sad sad panda. So 3B on the Sups go fine with the DFC3C, but don’t mix and match the “XL” and the non-XL unless you are willing to take the performance hit.
