As per my knowledge the ospf authentication feature doesn’t support the key-chain authentication for dynamic keys management.

If I need to span all traffic “coming from f0/1 and f0/2″ would that mean RX traffic or TX traffic. I have read the explanation in the DOC CD am still confused. Any help is much appreciated

So, how will the other end determine if I’m sending with/without the excess burst? at the end it will receive 256k (either by shape average 256000 or shape peak 128000) ? I’m confused!!

I dont think that this is true. V2 doesnt forward VTP when in transparent mode, unless the domain matches. There is some confusion about this in the Doc cd, but configuring this on switches seems to show this to be the case.

CB-Shaping can be done in two different ways: Shape average and Shape Peak.
Shape average limits the transmission rate to CIR, whereas, with Shape peak the router can send more traffic than CIR.
The formula is:
Peak Rate = CIR (1+Be/Bc) and remember by default Be and the Bc are set to 8k

The forwarding behaviour in VTP v1 & v2 has been discussed a few times here. Apparently the behaviour changed at some point in the dim and distant past, but the doc cd was not updated to reflect that.

yes Mark, this is why I ask. unless there is a reason for that, why then cisco produced the “shape peak” command if I can get the same result with “shape average” and be=0 !!!

With VTP V1 (the default) a switch in transparent mode will only forward vtp advertisments if the domain & version number match so if you use a random VTP domain for example you won’t forward VTP messages learnt on trunk ports (because it’s unlikely that the VTP domain will match).
